MSF01 Custom Trailer for Vertical Positioning of Carbon Filters

One trailer concept to transport carbon filters horizontally and position them vertically on site, across three filter sizes. The MSF01 includes a self-contained hydraulic powerpack and remote operation for flexible use in Europe. Read the full project story below. [...]

Customer & Situation

Puragen supplies cleaning solutions for water and related processes and needed a new trailer solution for handling carbon filters. Their filters must travel horizontally for transport and be positioned vertically during operation. They worked with different filter sizes and previously needed two trailer types, but the existing fleet was worn and due for replacement. The goal was one practical solution that could be used across Europe.

The Challenge

The trailer had to handle three different filter sizes without requiring conversions or changeovers. It also needed to be flexible in day-to-day use, so it could work with different tractors and remain easy to operate while keeping a clear overview of the handling process. In addition, the solution had to be suitable for European approval and registration.

Our Solution

VAKO developed the VAKO MSF01 as a new trailer concept that can transport each carbon filter horizontally and position it vertically on site, without rebuilding the trailer between filter types. The chassis was custom-built via partner Pacton. The superstructure and handling concept were developed and refined in collaboration with an automotive engineer. For maximum flexibility, the MSF01 was equipped with a hydraulic powerpack with a diesel engine, allowing use behind tractors without onboard hydraulics. The trailer is remotely operated to support safe, controlled positioning. Multiple chassis options were included to ensure stable, comfortable road handling.

The Process

VAKO and the customer defined the functional requirements and worked out a complete new concept together with Pacton. The chassis and superstructure were developed as one integrated solution, with the powerpack and remote operation included from the start. After build and completion, the trailers were delivered for international use.

Result & Impact

Two MSF01 trailers have been built and are in operation, one in the UK and one in France, where they are used to the customer’s satisfaction. Two additional units are planned. Puragen now has a single trailer concept that supports carbon filter handling across different sizes, with the flexibility to operate in multiple European countries.
