Customer & Situation

Steinweg needed a solution to transfer coffee beans from one shipping container to another. The goal was to return the shipping line container to the carrier as quickly as possible, while allowing the customer to store product and feed it into the coffee production process when needed. VAKO developed the solution in close cooperation with the customer.

The Challenge

The project had a short lead time and required a complete design that combined both a mobile or stationary vertical loading concept and a stationary tipping setup. Safe access at height was essential, so operators could reach the top of a container in vertical position. The process also needed controlled discharge, with product directed into a conveyor via a hopper outlet.

Our Solution

VAKO delivered two systems:

  • A stationary VAKO SVL20 vertical loader (20ft)

  • A stationary 20ft tipping station with a tipping table set at approximately 50 degrees

The tipping station includes a hopper for controlled discharge onto a conveyor. Because the product is coffee, the hopper was executed in a food-grade finish. A stair tower was added to provide safe access to the top of the container during operation.

The Process

After design approval, VAKO built the full system, then disassembled it for transport to the site in Southern Europe. On location, teams from VAKO and the customer reassembled and tested the equipment together. After fine-tuning, the operation was brought into stable daily use.
